Beginning with the Barcelona agreements that foresee the creation of a free trade area between Europe and North Africa, the trade relation among Mediterranean countries has steadily grown though still far from the real potential. The number of inhabitants, the growth rates of southern population and economies, their young population, the size of the northern shore economies and the differences in costs between the two shores are only some of the elements that make the interaction among operators in the area, a phenomenon of granted success in the years to come. Beyond trade, foreign direct investments, especially SMEs-generated, are still limited despite of the appealing conditions local governments are granting. While big companies (both industries and banks) have begun investing tangibly, SMEs are still reluctant due to the risks a lonely effort would entail. Indeed what is missed is a punctual and efficient network of service providers escorting the venture from home to a new market and a new business environment. At the moment the entrepreneur which decides to establish its operations in a foreign context, does not find, especially in the Mediterranean region, a reliable support that shares with him/her the decision making process, that accompany the project solving all big and small problems that along the way, can frustrate his/her determination. Most of the times, a company “tastes” a market by sending a representative to a fair. The follow up to contacts is often difficult due to the distance. If of any interest, the initial contact is followed by field visits that is most cases are time consuming and expensive. In some cases changes in the counterparts, shortage of human resources, problems related to one of the two companies or delays can endanger the process of establishing a fruitful connection. ONEMEDIT is there to help companies initiating and cultivating activities abroad, to shorten the exploration time, to increase the success rate of the project by minimising the most common problems and granting a chance to entrepreneurs that would otherwise be relegated aside of the market unification process.
